Australian Plants Gold Coast is a group of native plant enthusiasts based on the Gold Coast. Although we are mostly amateurs, the group has a strong mission of increasing members' knowledge of native flora of the region and encouraging the planting of Australian natives in both public and private gardens (see Objectives). We meet monthly and have speakers on topics of interest, or workshops or other activities which encourage members to share and gain knowledge. Our excursions are varied from half days to camp-outs over a long weekend. The range of interests in native plants amongst our members is diverse: from propagation and practical planting in home gardens to conservation of indigenous flora and bush restoration work (see Projects). The group published the book "Grow Natives on the Gold Coast: a practical guide for gardeners" which covers the different geological soil types on the Gold Coast and has lists of recommended plants and advice on dealing with soil problems. We also produced the leaflet Planting for Wildlife Gold Coast. Our Propagation Group produces hundreds of plants each year and we have plant sales at our various displays of native flora throughout the year.
